SUPRA staking FAQ
Short answers about staking SUPRA with Futura Meridian: what it takes to start, what it costs, how long unstaking takes, and what happens to your rewards in between.
What is the minimum amount of SUPRA I can stake?
2 SUPRA. The pool’s own floor is 1 SUPRA, but the stake transaction takes its fee before the chain checks that floor, so a stake of exactly 1 is rejected. 2 clears it with room to spare, and the form will not let you send less.
Separately, keep another 2 SUPRA liquid in your wallet: the network reserves the transaction’s gas ceiling up front. Budget 4 SUPRA in the wallet to make your first stake.
How long does it take to unstake SUPRA?
Anywhere from nothing to 48 hours. The lockup clock belongs to the pool, and it runs in two-day cycles for every delegator at once. When you unlock, your SUPRA is released at the end of the cycle already in progress.
Unlock just before a cycle ends and it is ready almost at once; unlock just after one starts and you wait close to two days. The form reads the pool’s remaining lockup from the chain and shows you the date and time.
Can I cancel an unstake after I have started it?
Yes, at any point before it matures, with no penalty. The unlocking amount carries a Cancel unlock control; sign it and the SUPRA goes straight back to staked.
It is the cheapest operation on the site: a real cancellation used 19 gas units, under 0.02 SUPRA, and refunded the storage deposit the unlock had put up. Cancel unlock reactivates the whole unlocking amount; there is no partial cancel. It works only while the SUPRA is still unlocking. Once the cycle ends it is ready to withdraw, and there is nothing left to cancel.
Do I keep earning rewards while my SUPRA is unlocking?
Yes. SUPRA in the unlocking state stays delegated and keeps earning at the same rate until the cycle ends.
A withdraw run through this form returned 2.00018158 SUPRA against 1.99999999 unlocked. The difference is what it earned while it sat there.
What is the APY for staking SUPRA?
About 8% a year, and that is after the operator commission. The 38.72% the network takes has already been deducted; you do not subtract it again.
It is built from the chain’s own per-epoch rate: 0.0029794% of your stake per epoch, less the commission, across 4,383 two-hour epochs in a year. The 8% is an estimate. Real rewards move with total stake, participation and the protocol’s emissions. See SUPRA staking rewards for the full arithmetic.
What commission does the validator take?
38.72%, and the network sets it. The chain stores it on the delegation pool in basis points, so anyone can read it back. Every confirm step on the form states it next to the fee.
Note that the 8% estimate on this site is already net of it: the commission is not taken off that figure a second time.
How often are rewards paid, and do I have to claim them?
Every epoch, two hours on mainnet, and there is nothing to claim. Each payout is added straight to your delegation and starts earning itself, so the position compounds twelve times a day whether or not you ever come back.
When does my stake start earning?
At the next epoch boundary, so within two hours of you signing. The form reads the epoch interval from the chain and states the wait on the confirm step before you sign.
What does it cost to stake SUPRA?
Under 1 SUPRA, and most of that comes back. Real stake transactions against this pool have used up to 929 gas units, about 0.93 SUPRA, and the bulk of it is a storage deposit, held while the delegation exists and returned when you withdraw or cancel.
The form measures the fee by simulating your exact transaction against the chain before it asks you to sign.
Why does the Max button leave 4 SUPRA in my wallet?
So you can afford to leave. Unstaking is two transactions, an unlock and a withdraw, and each reserves its own gas ceiling up front, up to 2 SUPRA and up to 1 SUPRA. Max keeps 4 back so both clear with margin.
Staking down to the last token would strand you in a position you could not pay to exit. If you unstake through StarKey’s own screens instead, its transactions may want more than this.
Who controls my SUPRA while it is staked?
You do. Delegated SUPRA is held in the staking pool under your own address. The validator can use it to produce blocks and earn rewards, but cannot move it, spend it or withdraw it. Only you can unstake it, and you can start that at any time. There is no minimum term.
Which wallet do I need to stake SUPRA?
StarKey, the browser extension on a desktop or the StarKey app on a phone, set to Supra Mainnet.
A phone browser cannot see a wallet, so the form offers Open in StarKey, which hands the page to StarKey’s in-app browser where signing works normally. The full flow has been run on chain from an iPhone this way.
