How to unstake SUPRA tokens

Unstaking SUPRA is two transactions. First you unlock, which starts the clock. Then, once the pool’s lockup cycle ends, you withdraw, which moves the SUPRA back to your wallet. In between, your tokens carry on earning, and if you change your mind you can cancel the whole thing and put them straight back to work.

Step 1: unlock

Connect your wallet on the form, switch the mode from STAKE to UNSTAKE, enter an amount, and sign. That is the unlock. Nothing arrives in your wallet yet; the SUPRA moves from STAKED to UNLOCKING in the position band.

Two things the confirm step tells you before you sign:

The chain unlocks slightly less than you ask for: a single base unit, the eighth decimal place. Unlock 2 SUPRA and 1.99999999 moves. No fee is taken; it is a rounding artifact in the pool’s share math, and it is why the form works in exact base units.

The wait: a pool-wide two-day cycle

The lockup clock belongs to the pool. It runs in two-day cycles for every delegator at once. When you unlock, your SUPRA is released at the end of the cycle already in progress. The clock does not start when you press the button.

So the wait is anywhere from nothing to 48 hours, depending on where the pool is in its cycle when you unlock. Unlock just before a cycle ends and your SUPRA is ready almost immediately. Unlock just after one begins and you wait close to the full two days. There is no way to shorten it.

The form reads the pool’s remaining lockup time from the chain and shows you the date and time your SUPRA becomes available.

Your SUPRA keeps earning while it unlocks

Unlocking does not stop the rewards. SUPRA in the UNLOCKING state stays delegated to the validator and keeps earning until the cycle ends, at the same rate as the rest of your stake.

A withdraw run through this form returned 2.00018158 SUPRA against 1.99999999 unlocked. The difference is the rewards earned while it sat unlocking.

Step 2: withdraw

When the cycle ends, the position band moves your SUPRA to READY TO WITHDRAW and a withdraw control appears. It is a separate transaction with its own confirm step, and it is the one that puts SUPRA back in your wallet.

The withdraw brings back three things: the amount you unlocked, the rewards it earned while unlocking, and the storage deposit the delegation was holding, about 1.29 SUPRA on a real withdraw through this form. The form treats a withdraw as done once the chain has emitted the event that proves the SUPRA moved.

If you press withdraw before the cycle has ended, nothing is signed. The form checks first and tells you your stake has not finished unlocking.

How to cancel an unstake

You can cancel an unstake at any point before it matures, and it costs almost nothing. On the position band, the unlocking amount carries a Cancel unlock control. Press it, read the confirm step, sign, and the SUPRA goes straight back to STAKED.

There is no penalty and no cooling-off period. On chain this is a reactivate_stake call, and it is the cheapest of the four operations: a real cancellation through this form used 19 gas units, under 0.02 SUPRA, and refunded the storage deposit the unlock had put up.

Two limits:

What unstaking costs

Very little, but you need liquid SUPRA in your wallet to pay it. Before running any transaction, Supra reserves its gas ceiling from your balance, up to 2 SUPRA for an unlock or a cancel and up to 1 SUPRA for a withdraw, even though only what is actually used gets charged and the rest is released.

What was actually used, on real transactions through this form:

The Max button on the stake form leaves 4 SUPRA in your wallet for this reason. It is enough to fund an unlock and a withdraw later. See why Max leaves 4 SUPRA.
